Protecting you home and improving you home security is a do it yourself project and you are responsible for your overall home security. I’ve collected a few tips that are great tips you can do yourself to improve you home security.

Installing a Patio Door Stop

Installing a patio door stop is a simple yet effective way to improve you home security. I’ve posted a few videos that explain how to install a patio door lock and you can see it is an easy do it yourself home security idea most anyone can implement in an afternoon.

This is a very simple way to make areas around a baby crib safer and any window or patio door can be a potential security risk, not only for buglars getting in, but baby getting out!

I’ve written another post on the best do it yourself home security systems and how they are installed. Many home security ideas are from the outside in, meaning intruders and ways to keep them out. It is also important to consider you child and if there is a risk of them wandering out of the house.

Another video series on installing a patior door lock so that the door cannot be open from the outside is available on YouTube, I’ve uploaded on of those videos below that starts the simple instruction on how to install a security lock for a patio sliding door.

With natural gas an propane prices soaring unexpectedly from time to time, many Americans find warm comfort in having a heating alternative. Installing a wood burning stove in you home is a great way to have that extra heat source without breaking the bank. Another reason to install a wood burning stove is for an additional heating source, both can be used together, saving hundreds of dollars each year on home heating.

Installing a wood burner will usually require you to pass through your ceiling and roof or a wall. Installing a wood burner is a good project for hiring a professional, but if your a do it yourself type, you could install the wood burner in a day or less.

A good point to remember when installing a wood burner is the actual placement of the unit. Make sure it is not too close to the floor or walls. Wood burning installation instructions will usually come with the unit. Typically when installing a wood burner you will want to stay clear of any surrounding walls by 3′ or more. Below I’ve added a video of installing a wood burner, this video is a real treat and even has some music! All for free at Do It Yourselfers Helper.
